Cascade Minerals Organic Soil Booster Featured on “In the Garden with Mike Darcy”

Whether you tend a vegetable garden, grow prize-winning blooms or cultivate containers, great soil is the place to start.

As the saying goes, “For every dollar spent, 90-cents should be for the soil—and 10-cents for the plant!”

Mike Darcy, host of KXL-FM’s “In the Garden” which airs Saturday mornings in Portland, Oregon, invited Cascade Minerals’ Chief Agronomist Rich Affeldt to the studio to talk about soil health, and how Cascade Minerals organic soil amendment can help.

Interview highlights include:

  • Cascade Minerals is made of volcanic basalt from Central Oregon. Basalt is more soluble than most volcanic rocks, which means that its nutrients (iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese) are more readily available to plants.
  • Our planet’s soil is formed by two major natural processes. Volcanoes create new soil through lava flows and ash deposits. Glaciers grind rocks up into small particles. Life flourishes with these fresh deposits of rock material—by adding Cascade Minerals to your soil, you are mimicking the Earth’s method for producing healthy soil.
  • Cascade Minerals contains no synthetic chemicals or man-made additives. It is pure, crushed volcanic basalt. As a result, it is listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic production.
  • While Cascade Minerals does not contain the macronutrients N-P-K, it will enhance them—making it the ideal product to use in conjunction with your preferred fertilizer.
  • Cascade Minerals is safe for people, pets and plants when used as directed. Use it in your vegetable garden, in your containers—you can even add it to your compost pile to encourage an early start on the breakdown of the basalt’s nutrients.
